Here's
how it works
The 48 Hour Film Project is the ultimate filmmaking challenge, a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and your team have a blast making a movie!
Making a film isn't so hard, is it?
Here's the catch—you've got to do it all (and we mean ALL, writing, shooting, editing and scoring) to be completed in just 48 hours!
Putting
Together Your Team
You are responsible for putting together your own cast and crew, determining how many people you need on your team, and getting equipment and anything else you need to make a film/video (we do not provide any equipment related resources). There is no limit to how many people are on your team, it can be a one man team to a whole movie crew!
Since you will know your genre only an hour or a few hours before the shoot, and the 3 elements (character, prop, and line) right before the competition begins, our best suggestion is that for your prior planning among your production team, to come up with a script beforehand, but make it a loose script that could easily be tweaked into any genre. For example, you don’t want an overly romantic script just to end up drawing “horror,” and not know how to change it.
For some teams, you might come in without any script in mind yet and that’s fine too. For some teams, having a script first, then tweaking it helps more; while for others, doing all the planning after genre and elements are secured might be a better way to go. There are no rules for this part.

Rules Of The Game
• You and your team must complete a short film of 4-7 mins in length within the 48 hour time frame given by the organizers. Including the ending credits, the film length strictly should not exceed 8 mins total. You must submit your completed film 48 hours later--one minute late is too late! All submitted films will be screened at a local theater. This year, your 48 hours are from 10/04 19:00PM -10/06 19:00PM precisely.
• The project begins with a Kickoff event where each team is a randomly assigned a FILM GENRE. This is done by each team making a drawing at Kickoff, and your film must ultimately reflect that of your assigned genre.

2. Every team has a total of two draws, if the team confirms their first draw, then they will not need to draw a second time. If the team prefers to draw twice, they can select which genre they prefer.
* Failure to meet any of these basic rules will result in disqualification of your film in the competition (but it will still be screened at the premiere screening).
